QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe), as a sample pretreatment method, was first proposed by the US Department of Agriculture in 2003 and has been applied to various sample pretreatment methods, especially in pesticide residue pretreatment. Compared to traditional methods, it is simpler, more economical, and faster.

The principle of QuEChERS

This method searches for efficient extraction and purification reagents, and separates the target components from the sample matrix (such as fatty acids, pigments, lipids, etc.) through simple centrifugation operations.
Purification reagents are packed in centrifuge tubes, with two specifications depending on the filling amount: 2ml and 15ml, containing magnesium sulfate (to promote water and organic phase stratification) and PSA adsorbent (to remove sugars and fatty acids, etc.). Meanwhile, depending on the requirements of the sample matrix, purification reagents containing C18 (to remove lipid interference) or graphitized carbon (to remove pigments) can also be selected.

Characteristics of QuEChERS

Easy to use, fast processing speed, can achieve up to 4 times acceleration, can refer to relevant standards such as AOAC, EN, etc.
The entire processing process does not require solid-phase extraction equipment or glassware, only centrifuges and pipettes are needed.
Less solvent consumption, able to save 6-9 times the amount of solvent, no chlorine containing waste, and lower cost compared to conventional solid-phase extraction columns.
