- Improper use or use of old gaskets to connect chromatography columns can result in inconsistent chromatographic peaks and unreliable results. Using inappropriate sealing gaskets can allow air and other pollutants to seep into the chromatographic system through the column seal, seriously affecting column efficiency and detection performance. To maintain optimal performance of the instrument, the sealing gasket should be replaced every time the chromatographic column is replaced or maintained.
- There are three main types of gaskets used for GC capillary columns, namely graphite gaskets, Vespel gaskets, and Vespel graphite gaskets. The graphite pad can withstand high temperatures up to 450 ℃, while Vespel and Vespel graphite pads can withstand temperatures of 280 ℃ and 350 ℃, respectively.
- Agilent provides users with a variety of sealing gaskets in different types, materials, and shapes to ensure proper matching with the instrument and leak free connection between the chromatography column and the injection port.
