When accidents such as fires, attacks, and large-scale pollution incidents occur, there is a leakage of chemical substances and pollution of water bodies, soil, etc. At this time, firefighters or environmental inspectors need to conduct on-site analysis of gases, water, and soil at the accident site. There is an urgent need for a portable sampling kit that can collect various forms of samples, enrich, extract, and filter them, and directly inject them into GC/MS for detailed analysis. The Sampling Kit is designed for this purpose.

Due to fluidity and diffusion, the collection of gas samples has always been a challenge for testing personnel. The traditional method is to use sampling bottles or bags to collect gas through natural diffusion. Although this method can solve some problems, its operability is poor and the operation time is relatively long. The Sampling Kit uses solid adsorption and liquid-phase extraction methods to actively adsorb or dissolve gas samples and store them, effectively solving the problem of gas sample collection and storage.

The Sampling Kit collects and processes samples in two ways for different states. For gaseous samples, specific adsorbents are used for adsorption, followed by heating to desorb, for the purpose of sample collection and processing. For liquid and solid samples, generally referring to water and soil samples, they are first stored in containers and sealed equipment, and then extracted with specific solvents.

Adsorption method:

The main determining factor of adsorption method is the selection of adsorption fillers, and the Sampling Kit has multiple types of adsorption fillers to choose from.

The Tenax TA adsorption tube is widely used, which has good adsorption effect on volatile organic compounds. The single recovery rate of benzene and toluene standard gases can reach over 95%, and the recovery rate of xylene and styrene standard gases can reach 90%.

When the boiling point of the detected compound is high, multiple adsorbents can be used in combination to achieve the desired adsorption effect. The Sampling Kit provides three adsorbents for combined use: Tenax TA, Carboxen 569,and Carbosieve SIII。

The adsorption capacity of the sample is determined by the type and concentration range of the adsorbed sample. In general, the adsorption capacity of the Sampling Kit is 1L. When the concentration of the sample is very high, excessive gas volume may cause damage to the adsorbent packing. In this case, the adsorption capacity can be reduced to 100ML to protect the adsorbent.

After sample adsorption, it can be directly injected into GC/MS for analysis using a desorption device.

Extraction method:

After water and soil samples are collected, they can be extracted using n-hexane, acetone, etc., and then analyzed using GC/MS.

The standard sampling module of the Sampling Kit: The standard sampling module refers to the sampling program and method set by the Sampling Kit according to the characteristics of the sample in different emergency situations, and is equipped with corresponding tools and containers (adsorbents, sampling tubes, syringes, etc.).

For some specific situations, Sampling Kit provides solutions for sample collection and processing.

100ml methanol; 100g/ml deuterated isotopes D6 benzene, D8 toluene, D10 xylene, D8 naphthalene.

250ml n-hexane; 20g/ml deuterium isotopes D8 naphthalene, D10 anthracene, and d10 pyrene.

250m acetone; 20g/ml deuterium isotopes D8 naphthalene, D10 anthracene, and d10 pyrene.

Tool List:

Adsorption tool: 9 cartridge cases with joint locking nuts and PTFE seals. Three blue ones are used to install Tenax adsorption tubes; Three black ones are used to hold the combination adsorbent; Three red ones are used to install desorption tubes.
