Measuring Ball Material - Ruby
Product details
Ruby红宝石测球

For the vast majority of measurement scenarios, ruby is one of the hardest materials known among the measuring ball materials with industry standards and best characteristics. Artificial ruby is a 99% pure alumina crystal (corundum) sintered using Verneuil process at 2000 ℃.

Then cut and gradually process the corundum into high-precision spheres. The surface of the ruby measuring ball is extremely smooth, with extremely high compressive strength and high mechanical wear resistance.

There are very few applications where ruby is not the preferred material for measuring balls, but in two cases, it is recommended to use measuring balls made of other materials.

The first scenario is the application of high-strength scanning on aluminum materials. Due to the affinity between these materials, a phenomenon called adhesive wear occurs, causing aluminum on the surface of the measured tip to accumulate on the measuring ball. There is a better material for this application, which is silicon nitride.

The second scenario is the application of high-strength scanning on cast iron. The interaction between two materials will result in "frictional wear" on the surface of the ruby measuring ball. For this application scenario, it is recommended to use zirconia measuring balls.
