In the power grid system, substations and transmission lines with high voltage levels and large transmission capacity play a very important role. In the areas where transmission lines pass through, industrial pollution, salt spray from sea breeze, dust in the air, and other pollutants gradually accumulate and adhere to the surface of insulators, easily forming a pollution layer. Due to the greatly reduced insulation strength of polluted insulators, they can cause flashover under normal operating voltage, resulting in large-scale power outages and pollution flashover accidents.
Pollution flashover accidents are different from general simple equipment accidents, as they involve a wide range of areas, have multiple impacts on equipment, and are dispersed. At present, the grid structure of China's power system is still relatively weak, and multiple pollution flashover trips may lead to the collapse of the entire system, causing large-scale, multi device chain accidents.
Therefore, before designing and constructing the power grid system, the degree of pollution on the surface of the external insulator should be measured first to determine the pollution level of the area, and based on this, the appropriate external insulation creepage distance should be selected; For the external insulation equipment of high-voltage transmission lines, power plants, substations and other places that have already been put into use, it should be ensured that the surface pollution level is tested at least once a year to measure whether it may cause pollution flashover accidents, as a basis for determining whether the external insulation equipment needs to be cleaned or replaced. Through the above methods, the pollution flashover accident rate can be reduced to an acceptable level, and the impact of pollution flashover accidents on the national economy can be minimized to the greatest extent possible.
Due to the fact that the pollution on the surface of insulators contains both soluble and insoluble components, ash density (NSDD) refers to the ratio of insoluble components in the surface layer pollution of insulators to the surface area. Unlike soluble components in pollution (measured by equivalent salt density ESDD), the relationship between salt density and ash density in pollution degree is dispersed 5-10 times. Insulators with the same equivalent salt density but different ash densities may be at different pollution levels. Therefore, the confirmation of pollution level requires a combination of equivalent salt density and ash density. Only by measuring ash density can the pollution level be accurately determined.
