Working principle

The Namur type proximity sensor is a two-wire sensor that only contains one oscillator. The internal resistance changes with the distance of the sensing target, and the corresponding current also changes accordingly.

In many industrial processes involving flammable materials, any leakage or spillage can potentially form explosive gases. In order to protect personnel and factories, cautious measures must be taken to prevent the detonation of such gases, which are often referred to as "hazardous areas".

Dangerous materials typically include crude oil and its derivatives, natural gas and artificial process gases, alcohol, metal dust, carbon powder, flour, starch, grains, and fiber.

The principle of intrinsic safety (1S) is to intentionally limit the electrical energy in hazardous areas, so that any potential sparks or hotspots in the circuit become extremely weak and do not ignite the gas.
