Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)₅）Refers to the amount of dissolved oxygen consumed by microorganisms during the biochemical process of decomposing certain oxidizable substances, especially organic matter, present in water under specified conditions. It is a common indicator used in environmental laboratories to measure the organic content in water.

Measure the oxygen utilization efficiency of a sample during the biodegradation of organic matter at a specific cultivation stage and temperature. Currently, it is generally stipulated at home and abroad to cultivate at 20 ℃± 1 ℃ for 5 days. Measure the dissolved oxygen before and after the sample cultivation, and the difference between the two is the BOD5 value, expressed in milligrams per liter of oxygen.
