When heated to high temperatures, the rapidly responsive zirconia sensor produces predictable electrical output based on changes in oxygen partial pressure. This sensor is a solid-state device that utilizes yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ), which is a ceramic based on zirconia. The crystal structure of zirconia is stabilized at room temperature by adding yttria.
